Crafting Moments

It was 2012 and I was standing onstage after a festival just outside of Kansas City. I was there as the festival lighting designer. It was the end of the day and load out was just wrapping up. I was standing on the empty stage and talking with one of the visiting LD's, discussing some existential points of life. I commented on how fortunate we are to live in a society where we work furiously to end up right back where we started - an empty stage. "We don't actually produce anything," I said. "But we do." the LD replied. "We create moments."

It was a profound moment that changed my perception of our industry. In the years since, I've thought about what events, live or virtual, mean to our society. If you ask why events are important, most people will tell you the obvious: to share ideas. While this is very true, I've come to realize that there's a little more to it. Events provide a voice for those that might not otherwise have one. To give that voice a chance to have a bigger impact than an email or social media post. That voice can be a single speaker promoting their product or it can be crowd raising their voice as one in song. Events, especially live events, create synergy - that feeling of connection to everyone in the room, of being of one mind and heart. Some of the most amazing moments I've experienced is when people have come together and the rest of the world melted away and everyone had forgotten their differences for an evening.

Some one once told me that people don't remember what you said, they remember how you made them feel. Whether you are a musician wanting to get your message or feelings out there or you're a CEO wanting to get your employees fired up for the coming year, a well crafted and executed production can have an incredible impact on your message. Lighting can have a profound effect on the mood of a room. Powerful visuals in your content or even the stage design can make your event memorable.

As Design Muse, I'm here to help you navigate the details to help you deliver your message with lasting impact. I'm here to help you craft the perfect moment.
